The Brief

A homeowner in Coventry had a roof that had reached the end of its life. The old covering was tired, tiles were slipping, and patch repairs were no longer keeping the water out. Rather than keep throwing money at repairs, they decided to invest in a full new roof that would protect the property for decades. They chose natural slate for its looks and its longevity.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Stripped the old roof: Removed the worn covering back to the timbers and cleared all the waste from site.
• Checked and repaired the timbers: Inspected the battens and structural timbers, replacing anything that had rotted before going any further.
• Fitted new breathable felt: Laid a breathable membrane so the roof space stays ventilated and free of condensation, then fixed treated battens to the correct gauge.
• Laid the natural slate: Set the slate to neat, even courses, with the verges and abutments dressed cleanly.
• Finished the ridges and lead: Bedded and pointed the ridge, and renewed the lead flashing where the roof meets the chimney and walls.
• Left the site clean: Cleared every bit of waste and left the property as we found it.
